Natural Capital

Natural capital is the term used to describe those parts of the natural environment (species, habitats, communities, landscapes, soils, water, air) that provide essential ecosystem services such as CO2 sequestration and carbon storage, waterflow regulation, soil erosion protection, pollination, green spaces for recreation, and important areas for biodiversity.

Biodiversity Net Gain

Biodiversity Net Gain is an approach to development that leaves biodiversity in a better state than before.

This implies that any development that has a negative impact on biodiversity will be required to offset relevant ecosystems and habitats beyond what has been lost by the development.

Nature Positive

‘Nature Positive’ is a term that implies that the world should not just minimize its negative impacts on nature but enhance our ecosystems.

The movement has set specific timeframes to do this: the goal is to halt and reverse the destruction of nature by 2030 with a full recovery of a resilient biosphere by 2050.
